The Second Draconic Wars
Starting in the year 1378 AO, after a failed expedition by the now-criminalized Shepard's Guild, the Chromatic Dragons and the Dragonborn of Medamia have waged what is now called the Second Draconic Wars. First started because of the killing of Calamitous, the Black Dragon Chromatic God, the other four Chromatic Dragon Gods have continued to raze and kill as many of the Dragonborn as possible. After waging a 100 year war, recent events have led the Dragonborn to go on the offensive, with more theories about the Dragons' secrets held in the mountains, and questions about how this second war will end.
The ancient history of the First Draconic Wars was a tightly held secret by the old Ignan Empire and then the current Republic of Medamia, only recently leaked by a now-executed council member. The Ignan Empire originated as a slave uprising by the Dragonborn, which quickly snowballed into a full-blown war after the slaying of thousands of dragonkind. The Ignany Empire and the Dragons after hundreds of years of war and rebellion finally signed a treaty for 1,000 years of peace, and the Dragons split the Ignan Mountains at the cape, allowing the Dragonborn to live on one side and promised not to leave the other side. Just before this treaty, the Chromatic Dragons who led the negotiations solidified themselves as the Chromatic Dragon Gods: Calamitous, the Black Chromatic Dragon God; Ignan, the Red Chromatic Dragon God; Fulmination, the Blue Chromatic Dragon God; Cadmus, the White Chromatic Dragon God; and Dracryolith, the Green Chromatic Dragon God. After many years when The First Draconic Wars was long forgotten the Ignan Empire reformed into the Republic goverment structure that is called Medamia and the details of the treaty and the war became a tight held secret.
Before The Second Draconic Wars, the council members of Medamia tasked the Shepard's Guild, the main adventuring guild of the country, with sending some adventurers to negotiate an extension of the treaty. However, due to a lack of support from the council and secrets withheld from the adventurers, the mission turned for the worse. After speaking with the Chromatic Dragon Gods, the adventurers determined that Calamitous, an evil even among evil dragons, needed to be stopped. They fought and somehow slew the thought-to-be unkillable god. The events that followed included a number of battles in which the Dragons raided, destroyed, and ruined many of the large cities in Medamia. With little to no preparation, Medamia faltered, the Shepard's Guild was blamed, and the nation became a hellscape as the brutality of war broke out.
After many years of The Second Draconic Wars, Medamia being on the run for the begining years, the Dragonborn would eventually begin mounting a true defensive effort. Large forts and castles were repaired and constructed, allowing the fighters to shelter from the dangerous breaths of dragons, mount long-range weapons, and apply new gunsmith technologies to aid in the fights. Once these bastions were created, life almost became normal for the Dragonborn people. But the Dragons changed their tactics and unleashed the Draconians. The Draconians, a new creation of the Dragon Gods, were stronger, more magically inclined, and easier to control than the Dragonborn. They became the foot soldiers for the Dragons, as hundreds were unleashed to attack these bastions as fodder while the Dragons swooped in to assist. The full-fledged war had now begun, with the Dragons and Draconians attempting to establish strongholds, and the Dragonborn trying to expel them back to their side of the mountains. The war has continued like this for the past 100 years.
